lump — measure.
The largest common measure of weight — five nuggets (a thousand grains); as much as a good lump of ore, from which it takes its name. With it heavy things are weighed: a sack, a bar, a loaded bundle. "Half a lump" is a handy guess at a weight you can already feel in your hand.
